Gemstones and Crafting Guide FAQ Empty Gemstones and Crafting Guide FAQ

Post  Ablationer July 21st 2013, 7:26 am

Here's a simple guide to what gemstones do, what they are, and all that.

Wtf is a gemstone?
Gems are drops that you might get for killing enemy players. They only have a slim chance of dropping on each enemy that you kill, and the rest of the time it's only going to drop a regular gold nugget that you get money out of. They're automatically added to your inventory when picked up and will show up as an icon that more or less has the same color.
When you click use on a gem they'll affect your current weapon in a different way, depending which gem you use.

You can also use a ruby on an already upgraded gun (either with pearls or sapphires or emeralds) to undo the upgrades and refund the gems used for it

Other gems

Blood Ruby (2.5% Drop rate)
Used to remove all the gems used on a gun and refund them to you. Can also be used for special ruby recipes along with a ruby vat.

Blood Sapphire (2.5% Drop rate)
Used to alter your current gun with a random effect. You can pick a set from which to draw a random effect out from. For example, !draw 1 would draw a random effect from the category 1, which is stat-oriented mods

Blood Amethyst (2.5% Drop rate)
Used to bind your current weapon to you for 15 minutes, so that you don't lose it when you die. Can be stacked up to increase binding time.
Note: If you leave the server, your game crashes, or the server crashes, the binding time will be lost. Guns with a binding effect can still be dropped with /drop if you'd like to give them to someone else, or pocket them before leaving, or changing maps.
Note #2: If you put a binded gun in your inventory, the bind effect will be lost, as the guns in your inventory can be kept indefinitely anyway.

Metal Scraps (22% Drop rate)
Metal Scraps are the most common form of currency found in the server. It can be obtained by breaking down guns for base components.
It can then be used to create ammo and certain crafting recipes.
Code:
bind "m" "drp_useitem ent_bloodpearl"
Will make your M key automaticly spend a metal scrap to make ammo for your current gun.

Blood Diamond (0.5% Drop rate)
A single diamond will duplicate any weapon that is currently in your hands, including its mods and everything, and automatically save it into your inventory.
Works with any mods, except Legendaries and other uniques.

Blood Emerald (2.5% Drop rate)
Used to tweak your weapon's stats, name, material, and extra sound effect.
This will open a menu where each command such as !damage or !handling will let you spend or take back stats to distribute.
!damage + for example would spend one stat point to increase damage
!damage - would take back one point from the damage to be spendable elsewhere
Once you're satisfied with the stat changes, type !accept to spend an emerald and apply the changes.

to pick a material to use with !material, simply pull out your material tool, click on a material in your list, then press R (reload) to select it for your mod. Go back to your gun and do !material to apply that same material.

Sapphire mods
Brutal = More damage but a bit more recoil
Fast = Faster fire rate
Hefty = Larger clip size
Double = Fires 2 shots at once, clip is slightly larger
Accurate = Increases flat accuracy (mostly matters if you're not running or jumping, etc)
Light = Decreases weight and increases maneuverability (less accuracy loss for running and jumping, etc)
Stable = Less recoil
Specialist = Extra headshot damage, less normal damage (in case of projectiles, damage remains the same, but projectile travels 200% faster)
Handsleight = Extra reload speed
Unreloadable = Shit ton of ammo in the clip, but ammo type becomes unusable, and cannot be reloaded (aka, once you're out of ammo, the gun is worthless unless you restore it or change the mod)
Auto / Semi-Auto = Inverse the normal firing mechanism, making automatic weapons semi-auto and the other way around. Semi-auto guns that become full auto will do slightly less damage and have slightly worse accuracy, but have increased fire rate, and obviously no need to click. Guns that were automatic that become semi-auto will have improved accuracy, less recoil, and increased damage, but slower firing speed.
Heat-Based = Converts the weapon into using a heat type system of ammunition. The gun no longer requires ammo, however the weapon can now overheat if shot for too long. Heat stats depend on the weapon's default base stats.

Wtf is a ruby vat?
Ruby vats are sorta like the horadric cube in Diablo. (or the workbench in Minecraft if you're a dickhead and never played Diablo 2)
They're used to merge or upgrade or craft guns when the correct combination of items has been put into it. Each use of the vat will cause some damage to it and as a result it will wear out and break over time, but a really long-ass time. The Antiquarian can spawn a ruby vat, as well as accessories.

Okay but how do I know what to put in it?
You look here, dummy.
Here's a few basic recipes for the ruby vat.

Mixing 2 wads of money = Explosion of eggs, with a chance that some might be blood gems
The odds are based on the amount of money you put in it. The more money, the more likely it is that instead of raining eggs, some might be rubies. (And no they're not the edible eggs either)

Any normal gun + 3 Rubies + 3 Metal Scraps = Legendary Ruby mod for that gun

Regular M249 + 2 Rubies + 1 Emerald + 4 Metal Scraps = Legendary unmoddable Flame-Thrower

Here's a thought.

What happens if you get an effect from a sapphire on a weapon first, and then attempt to boost that effect using a ruby+food?

Won't work, both are essentially the same thing. The difference is that ruby+food gives you a specific effect that you want. Sapphire just gives you a random one. But they both use the same system.

Oh, and the ruby+food one can't get you a rare one.

I changed how stuff worked around emeralds and pearls a bit. In fact pearls are gone now, and will be replaced with scrap metal for more overall generic use and crafting.

Emeralds will now be used to upgrade the quality of weapons, and not up to 4 times. Only once or twice, but it'd still be more worth it in the end (Aka Superior is more or less in between the old Awesome and Perfect qualities.)

Heat-Based will now be a random sapphire mod

Food tab replaced with Tools. For now there's only one tool: the wrench. It can be used to disassemble the gun in your hands and get a chance to get metal scraps out of it. The chance varies on the quality of the gun itself. For example, cheap guns have a very low chance to get metal scraps.

I'd rather not do that because they're user-made prices and I don't wanna force the economy in one way or the other, either by putting prices too low than what people are willing to pay for, or making them too high than what people feel the gems are worth

Alright I decided to make a video to explain the basics of guncrafting since I kept getting questions about it and people don't seem to want to read.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-s7Sf7SlrM&hd=1

I'm going to put it on the MOTD itself as well
